Concept for Rocky Knob Park Access and Support Facilities Area: This concept plan for Rocky Knob includes a linear access road and parking area that follows the contour of the property. Proposed support facilities include two small shelters, one large shelter, bathrooms, four picnicking areas, and an information kiosk. Facility design and construction will incorporate traditional Appalachian vernacular style and materials. Proposed recreation facilities include a distinctive playground, a biking skills development area (concept: 1, 2, 3), and trail access to hiking and biking trails. What are your thoughts about this concept? Please comment below.
Concept for Rocky Knob Mountain Biking Trail System: The mountain bike system will include a stacked loop design in which trails become more challenging with each successive trail loop. The first trail, approximately 1.5 – 2.5 miles, will accommodate all levels of cyclists. The moderate and advanced loops will be accessible farther from the parking area. Finally, a downhill trail can be accessed near the top of the knob. We hope to construct 10 – 12 miles of trail at Rocky Knob. Hikers will also be accommodated at Rocky Knob through dual use trail design techniques that allow for hiking and biking users to safely share trails. What are your thoughts about this concept? Great concept and great work. Keep it up!
I am so excited about having Rocky Knob Park as a new local park offering more hiking and mountain biking opportunities closer to Boone. Keep up the good work and its a great plan. I am interested in volunteering to help build the park!!!
I discovered your blog on facebook groups. I just added you to my MSN News Reader. Keep up the good work buddy! Look forward to reading more from you in the future.
Incredible plan! I am so excited to see this happening here and would love to help build some trails.
I like the third option for the bike park / pump track / skills development area. It looks like a lot of fun.
I, along with so many others are excited about Rocky Knob bike park. It will be so nice to ride up here 8-9 months of the year instead of having to drive to Wilkes County for fun-riding single track.
I would love to have a prominent Skills Area with a pump track and many obstacles to ride off of. Also, a downhill trail that bombs the mountainside from the top would be super-fun.
We need to make use of the many rocks of Rocky Knob by having options to drop off of small boulders and ride technical terrain through rocky areas. We have major potential for a true “boulder garden” or three, to ride through and it’s always good to have trails that will be super challenging, something out there that people can always hope to ride as they progress technically in their skills. We need at least one double black diamond trail to aspire to.
This will require major volunteer help and I know you’ll get it from the Boone Area Cyclists!
Ride On!
What a great opportunity to drive mountain biking tourism dollars to Boone! Riders are searching for challenging courses, so design with varying abilities in mind.
Excellent concept! Well needed in the Boone area and I’m sure it will get a lot of use. Make the mountain biking super duper! If Boone could become the “go to place” on the east coast for outdoor recreation it would really boost the local economy and be an excellent complement to the university. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Boone on Money Magazine’s best places to live when it’s finished.
