Purpose
The site is maintained by the Watauga County Tourism Development Authority (WCTDA) to provide information and receive public comment concerning the planning and development of outdoor recreation infrastructure in the Boone area of North Carolina.
WCTDA Function
The WCTDA, which operates as a branch of Watauga County government, serves as an economic development agency working to implement tourism and quality of life economic development strategies. The revenue source of the WCTDA is derived from a 6% occupancy tax levied on short-term lodging rentals in the unincorporated area of Watauga County. The WCTDA reinvests these dollars through marketing and capital infrastructure development to further advance the local tourism industry.
The six member WCTDA board , which is appointed by the Watauga County Commissioners, is committed to making the Boone area a premier destination for outdoor recreation. This site is an expression of that vision – a vision that must be developed in partnership with the community and outdoor recreation enthusiasts.
